During this third week of January 2009, we both celebrate history and witness history in the making. On Monday, we celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – remembering the contributions of the civil rights leader. In his most famous speech, delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., King spoke of his dream – a dream of racial equality. He spoke at a time when African Americans suffered indignities such as being refused service in restaurants, being forced to ride in the back of public buses, to drink from black only water fountains, and much more. While our country has made great strides in the areas of race relations and racial equality, few can deny that racism still exist – in some areas of the country more than others.
It’s fitting around this time of year to reflect on MLK’s life and work. One question that we often ask is whether or not his dream has been realized. Have we come far enough? Have the barriers to racial equality been torn down sufficiently enough? If King was alive today (he would be 80-years-old this year), would he be satisfied with the progress that has been made? Has King’s dream been realized?
It is, perhaps, especially fitting to ask these questions this year. On Tuesday, one day after MLK Day, our nation’s first African American president was sworn into office. It was not very long ago that it would have been difficult to find someone who believed that this historic event would happen anytime soon. For many it must seem like a huge leap forward for African Americans. Is it? Does the election of Barack Obama signal the achievement of King’s dream? Regardless of who you supported in our last election, you cannot ignore that history has been made. Is the election of Barack Obama an achievement for all African Americans? Does he represent the “Dream” for all Americans of color – black, Hispanic, etc.?
Some have argued that there is no real connection between the election of Obama and the struggles of the average African American. Who’s right, those that see the election of President Obama as a realization of Martin Luther King’s dream, or those that feel we still have a long way to go?
What do you think? Avoid simple answers. Give me real thought. Read the comments of those posting before you. Come back after you post, and continue to keep up with additional posts until the deadline. I want a real conversation. Invite your parents to read the blog, and they can even comment. Enjoy!
Note: I'm including both King's "I Have a Dream" speech and Obama's inaguaral address.

I think that Martin Luther King would be happy with the progress that has been made since he died! To me i do think that his dream has been realized because he dreamed that people all over the world (whether black or white) will get along. Today people from different races are getting along better than they did back when there was racism.
YES I AM THE FIRST TO ANSWER! ok so here is what I think. about 40 years ago Martin Luther King gave his speech about I have a dream. The dream has come true. It is 2009and we now have the 44th president of the United Staes of America who happens to be Black. MLk would be so proud, he would have said that he is so glad that people have changed their ways, and life can go on without hatred and war. Now we can not change the minds of everyone, there is still hatred in the world. I am not just talking about the color of your skin, I am talking about religion, politics, and personalities. I hope that we can grow out of our hatred and begin a new life full of respect. This is a very new begining of hope for all colors of our election. Now we can be who we want to be. All African Americans pray this day would come, and yet G-D has fulfilled the dream into reality. This is a new era in history. As said by Barak Obama. I hope everyone can have a chance to look at the speech, because it had true meaning, and spoke out to the world. I know Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks,Harriet Tubnam and many more african american heroes are proud of this day.
I would like to know from my class If they agreee with me that In Barak Obamas speech reflected MLK just a little. Did it have the same meaning? Please relpy to my question.
DERIKA!!!!!!!!! I was the FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!! I just worte more than YOU THAT WHY IT TOOK LONGER> I SHOULD OWN THE SPOT OF NUMBER !!!!!!!!!
I also think his dream has been recongnized because there aren't different schools seperating the blacks and whites. Martin Luther King marched the streets and didn't stop until he got what he wanted.I think that when people think of him they will also think of Obama because Obama is the first african-american president and he didn't drop out of the race because people judged him by the color of his skin and Martin Luther King didn't stop because the color of his skin neither!!!!!!!! These two people will be remembered forever because MLK changed the world and Obama is the first black president!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes Darya. I do think that Obama's speech reflected Mlk. I already explained in my other thing. I also agree with you when you say that there is still a little raciscm in the world. But I still think Mlk would be proud because things have changed!!!!!!!!!
I think that Martin Luther Kings dream has not been exactly realized, but i think that he would be proud of the (mostly) un-racist country America is today. There are still of course some people who think that they are better than someone because they are white or black, but the majority of people are able to get along with other races. Many of the people we honor as American heroes have been African American. I think that Obama being elected was a big step in racism being entirely erased. It would have been much different if he had been elected president of Iraq or something. But now he is the most powerful man in the most powerful country in the world. He is the man who can "press a red button" and have a huge army bombing a country. This is a huge step in achiving what MLK would want, but its not quite there yet.
THAT IS TRUE Summer. Some people do think that they are better thatn others and most people out there in the world still do beleive in raciscm.
DeErica UR BLOGGING IN EVERY CLASS!!!! GO AWAY!!! JK
Ophelia you are suppose to blog on other peoples comments
I think Martin Luther King would be extreemly estatic to see the progress our country had made when it comes to racism or equality. The "I have a dream" speech, and Martin Luther King Himself have really made an impact in the USA. I think this is a huge leap for african americans or any minority races such as: hispanic, asian, ect. I think that this historical event gives hope to other races, and shows that really anything is possible since an African American, became president today. This is one of the main things that people have risked their lives for. I think that EVERYONE should be proud of Barack and his crew. No doubt Martin Luther King's dream has been realized. I could just imagine him crying as Obama got to be president at the inogeration.
YEt...there will always be people out there who believe they are better than someone else, or deserve more than someone else just because they are a certain race like summer mentioned. It's just something that might be with america for a oober long time. Yet, I believe personaly Martin's dream has been realized.
Are any of you watching the Balls that Obama and his wife are going to????????
No are they awesome. Some dude on the news wuz totally hitting on Michelle Obama
Mrs. Obama wore the same black and red dress twice. ...I wonder why.
And their daughters seemed a bit bored when the bands were playing. My parents stayed home from work just to watch it.
I think we all kind of agree that MLK would be proud but going back to what darya was sayin about obama reflecting MLK. i mean he was a little. but that was not for a certain race to be treated fairly. It was about Oboma and what he is going to do for his country and he is willing to be the president. So i would say that he reflects him (a little), but Obomas topic of his speech does not realy reflect MLK's topic on his speech speech.
In my opinion the neighborhood ball is the best so Far
!!!!!!!!
I disagree a bit. I think that Obama wanted to talk about MLK, and the other people who made a difference in our country when it comes to racism, or something like that so he could relate to everyone. Idk...im confusing myself
Good job so far. Keep it up.
OK. Dave speakin'. Going back to what Darya and De'erika said. Obama speech was not even half of what MLK was. MLK got us out of the terrible state we were in, and announced one of the most inspirational, and amazing speech's the USA has ever heard. Obama does show that we are not what we were before the early 60's., but does not even compare to MLK. It was good to show to other nations that we are not racist. And it does NOT say people might even be the SLIGHTEST bit racist if they did not vote for him. It's like saying your racist against whites if you didn't vote for Mcain. I will state one more time what I have already said, Obama does NOT compare up to MLK at all. MLK would indeed be proud if he were alive today, knowing all of his life's work was done.
Yo it's my turn:
As my good friend Dave said: Obama's election is huge for the message that MLK told the world. we have reached national unity! Although I don't think he's the best man for the job what with the socailism, lies, and racial statements seen on tv by him and Reverend Wright.
BUT; i do agree with everyone that we have come a very long way from the time of segregation and a very long way from slavery... which was utterly terrible. I must hand it to President Obama ( ugh, I hate calling him president) that he did a nice job. Even though I didn't vote for him.
NO, I am not a racist. I am simply a person who opposes dishonesty, dirty politics, and socialism.
Thank You
P.S. For those of you who don't know what socialism is just remember the early colonists who lived in the town and all shared. And even if you didn't work at all you still got food.
I havnt been watching any balls but bet there good!!! If you dont like Obama because hes black ur stupid. That's a dumb way 2 judge people. It's okay to state that someones black (if thats what they are) but dont trash talk em because of their color. Some get mad if you even say that there black, so be careful what you say!!!!!!
Tom that was very well written due to the fact that you went for McCain. I just want to point out that the kids to not vote like what you said Tom, it dosnt matter what we say because in the end the adults just vote, and their vot counts not us. Im not just saying that we arent important to politics but we dont have that much a big of role than what adults do, who get to vote.
Still love you Tom!
Hi Dave
Thank You
Thank you for what tom?
Whoa there ophelia, I said that i voted for McCain because Obama is a socialist not because he's a black man.
DO NOT call me a racist, man! Give me a black presidential candidate that's not a socialist and I'll vote for him. If you don't know what that is ask your parents.
NOT A RACIST
ophelia go home(to your own blog period spot CRaZY!PRsON!)
I think that Martin Luther King Jr.'s life work has been realized. The 80-year-old-MLK would be proud of his accomplishments throughout history. His actions have tooken a tremendous toll on what the nation thinks about freedom of African Americans. Today we look back on how well MLK did when he convinced the nation that African Americans should be treated just as equally as any white. I think that we have come far enough for now in the campaign against racism. It was important for King to speech that day and he was succesful enough. Most people would say that MLK's dream has been realized, and in part that is true. But there is still a lot of rascism out there in our nation and our world. I think that if MLK had not stood up there in Washington, D.C. that day that rascism would still have carried on maybe even untill today. The election of barrac obama (our first African-American pres.) has definatly made a huge leap for African AMERICANAs. I think that from now on it will always be like that. Maybe obama selectiom will single out the dream of MLK. maybe it doesnt. all i kow is that MLK would be proud of this great american accomplishment. It would probably have beewn unheardof backthen for a afriken ameriken to be an actually persident. ti is great acheivement for all afrackan amerigfacgf 000g0000fgd sory. my cat came and got keyboar. it is great acheivement that obama has been elected. and I think that it is achievement for all african americans to have the first african american president in american history. it does represent the dream Of MLK.
People need to start blogging 2 days to go
but then again i say more civilized becuase some peeps r still racist.
which does not include you tom
cause you r not racist
you just disagree with oboma
but then again i say more civilized becuase some peeps r still racist.

i agree with Darya.in the end the adults vote and not the kids!!!!!!!! people are spending so much time still talking about when Obama has already won. There is nothing you can do to change that.
Yes we do live in a different world from when Martin Luther King did but we would not be if there wasn't for him. Even though there are some really cruel people out there in the world that still make racist comments or they still do beleive in racism but you cant change every single person in the world!!!!!!!!!!!
No matter what, I still do think that MLk would be very very very happy of the changes that have been made and I think that he would be extremly proud of Obama BEING THE BLACK president because he didnt let tose racist comments stop him from acheiving his dream and for most of you guys I think that the way you are judging Obama is really really cruel as well!!!!
Even if you dont like Obama or you didn't vote for him, you still should respect him as your new president for the next four years of your life and hopefully the next four after that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So far, i agree with what everyone has put. With the 40 or so years that have passed since Martin Luther Kings death, i would expect him to be proud for the most part. There are some small exceptions though.Like many people have said so far, there is still racism out and about through out the world. But most people accept eachother because they ignore the color of their skin and their home country where ever it may be. Dr. King would definatly be proud of our new president Obama. Like Deerika said in one of her first blogs, Martin Luther King would also be proud because the school, restaurants, public bathrooms ect are no longer segrigated. I personally think that Martin Luther King would be even prouder if we get another black president that is fully black. I think alot of people dont realize or they forget that Barak Obama is as white as he is black. by that, i mean that he is not fully black. An what what Deerika just said is true. are opinions dont matter its only the people that are over the age of 18 and are registered. Butall in all, Martin Luther King jr would be prould of the steps America and also the rest of the world have taken to intigrate.
ooops. i did not mean to exit out of that last one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But anyways, Obama and MLK will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be remembered for forever and eternity as two african-americans who have changed the United States of America FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
=D
tHAT IS SO TRUE jUSTIN!!!!!!!! Obama is not fully Black he has whites and others in his family!!
I agree that racism will never end in this world!!!!(at least not in our lifetimes)!!
There will still be racism because of those people who are out there in the world and they will never change!!!!!!!!
Watching Rev. King's speech made my eyes water. Do I believe Martin Luther King's dream came true? I think his dream may never be fully realized. Though look at how much African-Americans have accomplished since:
Thurgood Marshall- first African-American Supreme Court Justice
Supreme Court rules prohibiting interracial marriage is unconstitutional
President Johnson signs the Civil Rights Act of 1968, prohibiting discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing to African-Americans
Tuskegee Syphilis experiment ends
Parents v. Seattle and Meredith v. Jefferson- Seattle and Louisville, Ky. tried to maintain diversity in schools by considering race when assigning students to schools ruled unconstitutional
President Barack Obama- first African-American to become president
When I say "accomplished" I know that they did not accomplish it. Insomuchas they were not allowed to try and accomplish it until that point. A better way to say it would be permitted to accomplish.
Still, you can see the United States has made an incredible step forward in eliminating any trace of racism. Indeed we have not fully achieved our goal, but with actions like electing our first African American president we are on our way.
??? Who cares if he's in between african and cacasian? That's even better. Infact that's HISTORY. My daddy says that when im as old as him I'll remember this moment and be very proud of obama and appreciate this alot more than I already do now. And I'm kinda opposing to what darya said about "what we say doesn't really matter" ...I think it kinda has somewhat input in a twisted way I'll explain when i think of it.
Oh, by the way tom that was cool what you said. Yet the comments about him being a socialist and a dirty politian caught me off guard.
Wow. Last night there was only 19 comments. good job. Hi anonymous. How are you?
Anyway, to end stupid arguements, no tom is not racist and Obama is indeed half white half black. I don't like to call him "president" either tom. It is a proud moment in history indeed. The first African-American president. But why Obama? African-American's have run for president, but why Obama? One reason. "Change". Change for socialism? Change for kids dancing for presidents on t.v.? Reply to what you think about what i think.
We got all off topic!!!
the subject is Has Martin Luther King's dream been realized and now people are talking about Obama!!!!!!!
But anyways to answer Dave, maybe Obama was chosen because people liked him the most out of all the African-American presidents that have ran!!!!!!
I think that MLK would be happy with the progress we have made since his big speech. Many people have relized that skin color is somthing to look past and that everyone is the same.. nothing makes someone more special. Although you still have people with a racist belief. It seems the problem of race comes up more between people than religion, culture, ect. MLK did the brave thing and started the process of making everyone relize we are the same and its still progressing. Obama being president should inspire people that we are equal bu think that too many people are comparing him to MLK which is a big responsiblity to live up to and honestly i don't think that anyone could make a bigger racial impact on the world. If someone could it would be Obama. I do think that Obama based his speech off of MLK, i just want a president who is inspired but doesn't have to take what other hisotrical people have said to inspire us. Obama being the first african american president is beyond amazing and hopefully he can take us out of the econmic situations. Basically MLK and Obama are similar in many ways, but they are also different. MLK has done an incredible job for joining people together. There needs to be more progress... even if you walk up and down the halls of Swift Creek you can hear racial comments... i think that Obama will add on to the progress.
WHOOO HOOOO for the 1st African American president, i wish im the best of luck and i'll pray for his sucess with our country.
Lots of Love,
Angel (:
Im with you there Angel. I hope he does well and i think that Would make Dr. King very proud of what has been acomplished thanks to him.
Ok,
Martin Luther King is known at least through out the whole U.S. And he tought us the most valuable lessons,he changed our lives. If he would have never been brought too this world, most likely today whites would dislike the african americans very much. And would treat them very poorly. I'm so proud on how well racism has calmed down. (:
Do i think that MLK would be happy to see where this country is now? yes, i do. We have come a very long way from where we were back in the 60's. MLks dream of every race being equal is a great one, but honestly in my oppinion i dont think that its something that this country or this world will ever be able to do. Although race, color and where we are from shouldnt be a problem we must face it, it is. It is somethihng that we have dealt with for years, we MAY have over come that battle the African Americans but whos to say that hispanics or even the whites of today arnt next? Sure to some it might be a signal of MLK's dream but i think that his dream was equality, am i not right? And based at what i have observed over the last months since Obamas win, is everything execpt for equality i honestly think that the African Americans think that this gives them a step up, so no there still isnt equality.
I must say that i agree very strongly with dave and tom on almost everything that they have said.
No, i dont think that this is a great acheivment for the "black" community. Many made it seem as though Obama is some huge hero now just because he is the first black person to be elected, yes it may be an acomplishment for him but by no means is it one for the whole community. In my eyes i see him as just another president. A leap forward, maybe but whos to say that Obama being in office wont bring down the black community if he falis to do all that he has promised?
Yes this marks a time in history but i cant help but think that this time in history is marked for the wrong things.
A question that i often asked myself is if Obama wasnt black would he still be elected, if Sarah Palin was in his place if she was the first women, would she be our president now, yes i think so. Today to many people are all about first, it shouldnt have aything to do with that. It should be abuot the person regardless of sex, or color.
yes darya i tink that obama's speech did reflect dr. king just a little. I think that Obama wanted his country to unite in time of crisis, maybe not exactly what mlk said though.
i repleyeded. is u hapee now darya
Dang guys, 49 comments!?! I mean, its good that you are keeping up with it, but a lot of you have gotten reeealllyyyy off topic.
Anyways, do i think his dream has come true? Well can you honestly tell me that MLK Jr. had one dream? And please define the dream for me? What i think that he wanted and dreamt of was a nation where we wouldn't make a big deal over a black president. Let me explain.
As soon as Obama was nominated the big deal was that he was an African American. Some people didn't even pay attention to his politics. Now i voted for Obama, but this is why i also agree with Tom and Dave.
I believe that what MLK meant was that, he dreams of a day when a black president is elected and it isn't a big deal. That people treat him the exact same as any other president, and i believe that too.
So really i think it will be a bigger deal, when it isn't a big deal.
Peace out!
I kinda disagree with Margot. I think it SHOULD be a big deal because not long ago, people would have never thought that this was possible. That a race could go from slaves, to potential presidents. I think its a fairly big deal. Now I know that some people only voted for him because they wanted to see a black president, and didnt pay attention to his politics but i don't like to believe that. I think that a smart person would vote for a president, not because of his race but for his plan for this country. Alot of older adults are estatic to see an african become president...it IS something that should be celebrated. If an Asian man or woman became president, it'd be a big deal as well.
(love you margot)
I agree with Ayana!!
Most people did only vote for Obama because he's black and they wanted to have a black president for the first time in history!!!
To think about it, this is the first time that anyone has ever made a big deal about a president!!
He maybe the first African-American president but like Nikki said he's no HUGE superhero or something like that!!!
I think that it's great that he's president and all but I also think that people should wait a while and see how things start to workout before they start to praise him!!!
Obama is just a human just like the rest of us and people are going crazy!!!!
He's only one man and just because he's president that doesn't mean that he can change the world in a quick blink!!!!!!!!!
Just wait alittle and see how things go!! If things turn out great that is terrific but if they dont who knows!!!!!
If Martin Luther King was alive today I think that he would want people to vote for Obama because of what he beleives in and not just because of the color of his skin!!!
k, well after like an HOUR of reading i have alot in my head that i need to get out!
i will start with my responses. Summer, a lot of people are very much against Obama as well! Just because he was elected president, by no means, means that everyone likes him! I got a text from a friend on Monday night saying “hello all! If you support your country you will wear black tomorrow in mourning because obama is gonna put a turban on his head and take over! Down with Obama!!!” she thinks that the moment he gets into office he will push that red button and bomb the U.S. I’m sure she isn’t the only one out there that believes that.
Margot! I like the way you think and couldn’t agree more! I just wish I had blogged before you so that I could get the credit for that idea :( lol
Dave, yes it is not about race but politics. I completely understand where you are coming from and agree with you fully. I do want you to be careful though, don’t over look the fact of why it is such a big deal to have Obama as president. It is not that some people voted for a black dude, but that there were thousands of people that were able to look past the color of his skin and see him as a person and possible president of the U.S.A. and I think Dr. King would be elated to see that in our countries citizens.
Adam sparked and idea for me. This could very well be the beginning of a long line of black presidents or this could very well be the first and last. Obama could make a huge mistake any day now and (kind of like the Hessians did way back then) turn all the neutralist (people that are borderline racist) and make them racist. If Obama turns out to be an awful president it could ruin the reputation for all potential black presidents out there… just a thought I wanted to throw out there.
now it seemed to me that racism was a big issue in the blog, especially with Tom. i feel that there were lots of people were accusing Tom when them, themselves, were acting rudely by failing to mention what racism really is and sticking to what the average American thinks of it. the definition of racism is "a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others." nowhere in this definition does it say "racism is when a white person is mean to a black person". racism could be a black person thinking they are superior to whites! and we are neglecting to mention all the other races in the US (we have more Hispanic Americans than African Americans!) MLK's dream is to have people not judged by the color of their skin! not by the blackness of their skin.
that leads into my next point. this is just a small step in MLK's vision. he wants ALL men to be equal, not just blacks equal to whites.
Martin Luther King Jr's dream has been realized, I believe that it is known and nationally understood. it is understood but ignored by many. it is not enough to understand something and believe in something! you have to act on it in order to make a difference! now why make a difference? isnt believing in it enough? no, everyone believing in equality will make no difference, but acting as an equal will make it equal!
i also want to point out that some people may think, "well, its those places that are full of different cultures that have all the racism" but i would actually think the opposite. those places have a higher tolerance for diversity than some place with little to no diversity. it is those places that can not accept change.
Have the barriers to racial equality been torn down sufficiently enough? well yes, pretty much. the written and sometimes physical barriers are gone but there are still unspoken barriers. there is a fine line between racism and comfort level. as far as i know (excuse me if i am mistaken) all racial barriers have been torn down - mena gave some great examples of that . We have done our best to make every man equal regardless of race. but has the overall picture, just within the community really changed that much? no, not as much as envisioned MLK at least. take for example the bus: i don't know how many of you ride the bus but if you do you know what i am talking about. most all of the black kids sit in the very back, then the 8th graders/trouble makers in the middle, and the little shy white kids sit in the front. they can sit were ever they want on that bus but they choose to sit in these places for that is were they feel most comfortable. the little white kids sit in the front. could they sit back in the back with all the rowdy black kids? sure! but that is just where they feel comfortable. the kids in the back come from a very different place than the kids in the front, they have different style clothes, they have different dialects even! but does that mean that the kids in the front sit there and scoff at the kids in the back?! no! of course not! sure, they are probably a little intimidated but that is all. (if you are wondering i have rode the bus all my life and i have sat everywhere from the very last seat to the very first. that is how i got my background knowledge) just because we are not all mixed together perfectly in this nation, we are like this because we want it this way, not because people make it this way.
now on the other hand, Obama... i think that in this election to many people saw him and said "oh look! hes black! ill vote for him! o wait let be go buy myself some Obama shoes!" i dont think enough of the people that voted for him did it for the right reason; but all clouds have a silver lining right? there were many first time voters this election that have been qualified to vote in previous elections because of Obama. i think this is very important because it is those people, the ones who liked Obama just by looking at him. \many of them got so involved that i can bet that many of them will be involved in the next election as well, regardless of the candidates! that is one of the primary things that makes this election so special.
thanx for stickin it out. i know it was a long one! but please feel free to comment back to mine with any other p.o.v.s for i will be checking this again
Kelly that has to be the longest resopnse ever! You beat Mena's record. You are now the bloggin queen!!! ALL HAIL!!!
LOL!!
MLK would be very satisfied with the progress that America has made. Even though all racism is not gone, it has decreased a lot. His dream has been partly realized- We have an African-American president and back then, no one would’ve thought that that would even be possible, but, as I said, racism is still here and a big issue. MLK just wanted everyone to live in peace, and some do, but some don’t. People all over the world were inspired by Obama making history by becoming the 1st black president in the United States of America. We’ve come pretty far, but I say we haven’t come far enough until there is hardly any racism at all. If the King was alive, I think he’d be very happy with America today. Barack Obama could represent the “dream” for Americans of all colors. In the history of America, we remember the treatment of all colors, mainly black, when we remember MLK. When we compare back then to now, we realize the progress everyone has made in helping America become a better country.
yeah Darya, but did you even read it?!
i have a dream too, you know!
~i have a dream, that my blog will not be judged by the length of its paragraphs (or color of its text), but the content of its characters
lol jk
like kelly was talking about, it is not a racist issue when it comes to people sitting on a bus, or at least it shouldnt be. It is just that so,e people like to hang out with there friends and just because maybe only one side of the bus has one race and the other has another race does not mean that there is a racist issue. Now it is a whole nother story if some people from one race dont let some people sit in certain spots.
going back to if we think that MLK's dream has come true, i think it has.
i went to the winter jam 09 this past friday
when one of the bands came out (tobymac) the band was so diverce, about 4 blacks, and 4 whites or something, i mean that is MLKs dream right there
i'm with Nikki on that one.
what if Obama wasn't black, somme people probably would have voted for McCain becasue Sarah would be the first women vice president. People in that mind set shoudldn't vote because they aren't voting to help oour country.
Well Kelly,
I strongly agree with you when you said that racism is not just whites being mean to blacks!!! I never thought of it as being the other way around and im pretty sure that other people didnt either!!!!!
I also agree with Angel when she said that people who only voted for Obama because the darkness of his skin and people like that should not vote!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well i am all out of words and have nothing to say anymore!!!Everything has already been said by everyone and I cant think of anything else right now!!!!!!!
I think that we all agree that Martin Luther King's dream has been realized a bit.
Also everything to say about Obama has already been said also!!!
WE ARE SUCH A GREAT CLASS!!!!!!!!!!
People can vote for who they wanna vote for. YEt again, a smart person would vote for a man who agrees with their idea of how this country should be ran.
The dream has been realized. If people can go from slaves, to inequal, to equal (yet still some prejiduce) to president, then the country should be proud of it.

DERN KELLY! That was quite the blog. And i read the WHOLE thing. And I agree. I also agree with Dave and Brenan.
Don't ya'll agree that racisim will never end? It's going to be taught from generation to generation. Little children will grow up hating other races. Thats just how it goes down.
Thank you for your time
I agree with Maria

I appreciate the strong comments and debate - and you did it with civility. Thanks for that.
ily maria!!!!!
who am i...??? please tell
Mr.Veliz, this has been my favorite blogging so far. My parents will start blogging. But I apologize if they don't use correct grammar or you can understand them.:) I think it is time for a African American president and this will cnhage History. Ever since Obama got elected everyones attitudes changed. People who usually dont say "thank you" or "excuse me" have really shined through. This is not just because Obama became president, its because people are beginning to have hope and know know that anything is possible is you just beleive!
Thank you for a wonderful Conversation F period. It has been a pleasure
I agree, this was a good one
